Watch a beautiful chess rook being turned from start to finish at Glacern Machine Tools.

The machine being used is a Mori Seiki NL2500SY-700 CNC lathe and the material being machined is 2.5 inch 6061-T6 aluminium alloy. The dry cutting speed of this machine is 450 sfm and wet cutting speed is 850 sfm (surface feet per minute.) The 3-jaw chuck is 10" diam. and the bore is 3.1". Max RPM is 4000 min-1.

Creating a metal chess set is a great project for the home machinist.
